Shop Ride along the River Trail
Our shop staff went on an early-spring ride along the Lansing River Trail to Old Town. Check out the pics along the way (and no, that's not a wine bottle, that's some fancy Euro water in that bottle).
Christmas Bike Trees, Lights
Michigan's best bike advocates, Rich and John of the League of Mich. Bicyclists, sent us an email just before Christmas with a photo of their home-made bike trees. Very cool; click to enlarge.
Playing around with some Christmas lights and an old bike I had planted in my front yard last year I came up with a lucky combination of blinky lights that make the wheels look like they're spinning. Check out a short movie clip (AVI format; should play with Windows Media Player).

Randonneur
Riding in Ingham County
Brothers Tim & Jeff Potter took a randonneur (country)
bike ride on vintage touring bikes (Jeff on a 1974 Paramount, Tim on a
early 70's Raleigh Super Course Mk II) on some lovely dirt roads in NE
Ingham County (near Perry/ Lainsburg) in Oct. 2005.
Here
are some photos from the ride. Contrary to
what many road riders might think it was a wonderful experience despite the
occasional wash-board road surface. Here's an
article by
Jeff about the ride.
Cruising the Kal-Haven (Rails to) Trail
Tim
& good friends Dave and Craig decided to skip the long driving part of
our now annual trek north for a getaway and tackled the
Kal
Haven State Park Trail which goes all the way from northern Kalamazoo,
MI, to S. Haven on the shore of Lk. Michigan.

A cycling friend (& MSU alum), Rick Oberle, was instrumental in seeing
this incredible trail happen. It's about 34 miles one way, so it was a
cool 100 km ride. I fortunately chose to go with a classic road bike, a
1974 Paramount (borrowed from brother Jeff) which was perfect for the job,
while Craig and Dave went with MTBs which turned out to be a killer workout
for that distance. We ended up running out of daylight, but fortunately
I had brought along one of my handy-dandy LED Turtle lights which prevented
us from running into fellow trail users. Overall, the Kal Haven is a great
way to see SW Mich. country side without the killer hills you'd normally
get riding the road. An excellent option for families with younger riders
(with lots of time) and other riders who might not be ready to tackle those
hills!

Yes, such a thing exists and not too far from MSU. MSU cyclist Tom Harpstead
submitted
this video (mp4, 465 kb) of him
pulling his canoe thru his Okemos neighborhood on his
