Leasing/renting

The MSU Bikes Service Center offers:

  • General maintenance with each green bike at no extra charge during the lease period. General maintenance includes flat tires, lubrication of rusty chains, adjusting brakes/gears, minor turning of wheels and worn-out tires.
  • A variety of accessories (baskets, fenders, bells, lights) that can be installed on our green bikes for half of the typical installation labor charge (costs for accessories will be required). A lock is provided with each bike at no charge.
  • Free compressed air to anyone at any time right outside of our service center entrance (low pressure and high pressure for road racing bikes).
  • Above-ground access with a ramp.
  • A convenient restroom.
  • Smple service hours to help keep your green bike running smoothly.
  • Bicycling videos to watch while you wait for service or to check out for seven days for free.
  • Bicycling-related books, magazines, stickers, shirts and more for you to read, borrow or purchase.

The MSU Bikes Service Center offers short- and long-term rentals for both our green bikes and deluxe bikes.

We offer short- and long-term rentals for both our green bikes and deluxe bikes that are typically sold through bike shops (Specialized, Trek, Giant, etc.). The deluxe bikes are not painted green and also come with a lock. General maintenance (repair/replace) of wear-and-tear type items (tubes, tires, brakepads, chains/ freewheels) is included with all our rental bikes. Helmets are strongly recommended but not included; we occasionally have free ones and also some for sale.

All of our rental bikes are on a first-come first-served basis. We do not offer reservations.

THANKS! You recommended a set of kevlar re-inforced tires as a possible solution to the flats I kept getting earlier this spring. Wow! What a difference! Six weeks of commuting through glass strewn paths and streets and not a single flat! Best investment I've made in my bike. No flats not only means less maintenance cost it also means far more consistent biking and pleasure. Thanks for the tip!

Biking accessories

We stock a wide variety of parts and accessories to service all makes, ages and models of bikes like any other shop. We can also special order accessories that we might not stock; please ask.

We now stock most of the smaller parts for converting bikes to fixed-gear (track cogs and one-speed front wheels of various sizes, lock rings, one-speed chains (in various colors), conversion kits for one-piece to three-piece cranks), fixed/fixed wheel sets (silver and gold with more colors coming), bullhorn h-bars (Origin8), rubber track grips, lock rings (for both track and for doing the fixed-gear conversion to a road hub), chain tensioners/chain tugs, one-speed conversion kits for free-hubs, and track-style pedals (Origin8).

We can also special order anything (no shipping if you wait until we place our regular orders with our vendors). For those do-it-yourselfers, we’re now stocking more tools, too (pedal and crank wrenches, chain-whips, chain tools, etc.).

Bike storage

Long-term storage for winter/summer breaks is available at a secure warehouse on campus. Rates are $20 per month or $40 for two to three months. One-week notice is required to retrieve your bike.

Used bikes for sale

Our used bikes are tuned up by trained mechanics (unless otherwise noted). These bikes are either private donations, or abandoned bikes; we rarely purchase used bikes. We provide a 30-day check-up on our used bikes; however, there are no guarantees and sales are final. We often have used frame-sets in stock. Check out our used bikes for sale online or stop by or e-mail to inquire. For a look at what we've sold in the past, take a look at our sold bikes archive.

Additionally, MSU Surplus occasionally assists us in the sale of our nicer used bikes. Take a look at the MSU Surplus Store's current list of used bikes for sale here.
